The Deputy President of the Senate and First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Friday attended the official commissioning of the new Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) headquarters building in Abuja.
The magnificent new edifice stands as a symbol of deep international cooperation, having been fully constructed and donated by the government of the People’s Republic of China as part of an enduring partnership between the Asian economic giant and the West African regional bloc.
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was represented at the high-profile ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON.
The auspicious event drew a gathering of prominent regional leaders, diplomats, and international stakeholders. Among the dignitaries in attendance were the President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State, Julius Maada Bio, alongside the President and Commissioners of ECOWAS, various federal ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Senator Barau Jibrin, in his capacity as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reiterated the legislative body’s unwavering dedication to regional integration.
Senator Barau reassured stakeholders of the regional Parliament’s immense commitment to fostering unity among the people of the sub-region. He further emphasized that the parliament will continue to pursue strategic and cogent international partnerships that advance the socio-economic and political goals of the ECOWAS community.
