Nigerian Senate gets a new Clerk, Rawlings Emmanuel Agada

The Nigerian Senate has gotten a new Clerk, Rawlings Emmanuel Agada confirmed in the latest postings announced by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

Agada, who is a native of Ipari Otukpa, Ai-Oodo, in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, has enormous experience spanning several decades in parliamentary administration and legislative affairs.

His appointment was confirmed in a June 27, 2025 letter by Executive Chairman of NASC, Chief Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, which stated that the appointment took effect from June 26, 2025.

According to a statement issued by Hon. Yemi Itodo, Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Agada’s elevation is a landmark achievement that “has never been attained by any of us in the past,” reflecting the pride and hope of the people of Benue South.

Mr. Agada began his career in the service of the National Assembly and has held numerous key positions over the years. He represented Nigeria at the Permanent Secretariat Desk of the Pan-African Parliament in South Africa and played an active role in the legislative work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland.

He also served as President of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) within the National Assembly, where he was instrumental in promoting staff welfare and institutional reforms.

In May 2019, Mr. Agada was appointed Director of Information and Research, where he led several impactful reforms—including the digitization of chamber proceedings, the recalibration of accreditation protocols for National Assembly correspondents, and the launch of the National Assembly’s New Media platform.

On June 26, 2023, exactly two years prior to his latest appointment, Mr. Agada became Deputy Clerk (Administration) of the House of Representatives. His competence soon led to a redeployment to the Senate, where he served as Deputy Clerk (Administration) and subsequently Deputy Clerk (Legislative), before being appointed Clerk of the Senate.

In his statement, Hon. Itodo described Agada as “a legislative juggernaut, an astute technocrat, and a professional to the core,” noting that his contributions to the 10th National Assembly have been invaluable.

“This, to us, is the peak,” the statement reads. “But we pray for more heights and opportunities for this great son of the soil—an enigmatic, quintessential gentleman in every sense of the word. We salute his legislative acumen and value addition to our nation’s democracy.”

Agada’s appointment is being celebrated not just as a personal achievement, but as a victory for the broader Otukpa and Ogbadibo communities, and indeed for all Nigerians who believe in merit, dedication, and excellence in public service.
