The House of Representatives, through its Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), is set to host its Inaugural Downstream Week: a multi-stakeholder engagement aimed at charting sustainable reforms for Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
The event is convened as part of the Committee’s strategic oversight function to deepen policy dialogue, regulatory clarity, and investment confidence in the downstream segment of the oil and gas industry.

With the theme, “Celebrating Our Success, Confronting Our Challenges, and Finding Solutions for the Petroleum Downstream Sector,” the two-day forum will bring together leading policymakers, industry operators, investors, and civil society stakeholders to exchange ideas on reform, innovation, and market opportunities.
The event organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), will feature keynote addresses, technical presentations, and panel discussions on critical policy, regulatory, and investment issues.
Expected dignitaries and speakers include:

- Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, Speaker of the House of Representatives

Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Rep. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, described the event as a key step in the legislature’s ongoing effort to strengthen parliamentary oversight and foster inclusive policymaking in the oil and gas industry.
“The Inaugural Downstream Week reflects the Committee’s resolve to strengthen parliamentary oversight through collaboration and knowledge exchange. It is a working platform for generating legislative and policy outcomes that address systemic inefficiencies and stimulate investment confidence in the petroleum sector,” he said.
The House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to deploying legislative instruments that strengthen institutional accountability, promote energy self-sufficiency, and advance sustainable economic transformation in line with the 10th Assembly Legislative Agenda (2023–2027).
