On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, officially administered the oath of office to Hon. Shuaibu Rabiu, swearing him in as the new lawmaker representing the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State.
The formal inauguration, which took place during a plenary session at the National Assembly complex, officially admits Hon. Rabiu into the 10th House of Representatives.
Hon. Rabiu, contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in a legislative by-election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He secured an overwhelming 35,356 votes, defeating his closest rivals, Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who received 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 98 votes.
The legislative seat became vacant following the tragic passing of the constituency’s previous representative, Honorable Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In alignment with Section 76(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), INEC is mandated to conduct a by-election to fill a parliamentary vacancy if it occurs more than three months before the expiration of the House’s tenure. This statutory requirement ensures that democratic constituencies do not suffer a prolonged lack of legislative representation.
With his official swearing-in, Hon. Shuaibu Rabiu assumes full legislative responsibilities immediately. He will fully participate in ongoing parliamentary debates, take up strategic committee assignments, and drive constituency-focused bills and motions on the floor of the House.
The inclusion of Hon. Rabiu restores vital representation and a national legislative voice to the people of Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Federal Constituency.
