On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the House of Representatives resolved to fast-track key economic and governance reforms by setting a date for a major technical summit aimed at drafting and harmonizing crucial legislation.
The move follows a joint motion presented by Hon. Ahmed Munir, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, and Hon. Yusuf Rabi’u, focused on acting upon the actionable recommendations generated during the recent 2026 National Assembly Open Week.
Between 14 and 16 July 2026, the House hosted a landmark 3-day Open Week event, which culminated in a high-level Parliamentary Breakfast Roundtable on 16 July 2026. The engagement brought together lawmakers, key stakeholders, development partners, and private sector leaders to debate critical economic and governance issues.
The Roundtable produced concrete recommendations across several vital sectors, including improving the ease of doing business, boosting non-oil export growth, protecting intellectual property, optimizing public asset management, harnessing the blue economy, curbing multiple taxation, and accelerating the ratification of international treaties.
Highlighting the necessity of turning these discussions into law, the lawmakers commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives for proposing the institutionalization of the National Assembly and Business Executive Roundtable (NABER), a platform designed to directly connect legislative action with Nigeria’s economic realities.
Recognizing that continuous engagement between the legislature, executive, and private sector is essential to accelerating Nigeria’s development agenda, the House officially resolved to:
Set a date for a comprehensive summit that will serve as both a public hearing and technical session to generate, review, and harmonize critical bills required to stimulate trade, investment, and economic growth.
Mandate the relevant Standing Committees, including Commerce, Public Assets, Treaties, Protocols and Agreements, Maritime Safety, Education and Administration, and Legislative Compliance, to immediately review the identified priority areas and report back to the House within four weeks for further legislative action.
