The Senate has issued a final deadline of November 15 for the remaining six State Houses of Assembly to submit their decisions on the State Police Bill, clearing the path for its transmission to the President for executive assent.
The development was announced during wednesday’s plenary following a progress report presented by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
Senator Bamidele revealed that 30 State Houses of Assembly have officially voted to approve the constitutional amendment bill. This overwhelmingly surpasses the statutory two-thirds threshold (24 states) required for constitutional passage.
Among the 30 sub-national legislatures that have passed the legislation are Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara.
The widespread approval across the geopolitical zones underscores the broad national support and popularity of this vital security reform.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio appealed for a brief grace period to allow the remaining six states to conclude their deliberations and submit their resolutions. However, the Senate unanimously concurred that any State House of Assembly failing to transmit its position by the November 15 deadline will be formally recorded as having withheld consent.
Upon the expiration of the deadline, the finalized bill will be packaged and forwarded to the President to be signed into law.
