Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have moved to reassure the public regarding the newly introduced National Tax Reforms, clarifying that the measures are strategically designed to protect low-income earners while creating a more equitable economic landscape.
Speaking during a tour of federal constituencies in Oyo State, former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, urged Nigerians to remain calm and well-informed. He emphasized that the reforms are not a burden on the poor but a vital tool to modernize Nigeria’s revenue system.
“The goal is efficiency and sustainability,” Senator Folarin stated. “By blocking leakages and reducing our overdependence on oil, we can finally fund critical infrastructure, education, and healthcare without resorting to excessive debt. High-income earners and large corporations will carry a fairer share of the responsibility, while our low-income citizens remain protected by statutory exemptions.”
Echoing this sentiment, the Lagos State APC issued a statement titled “Beyond Politics: The Truth About the New Tax Reform,” dismissing opposition claims that the laws target the underprivileged.
“This is not a weapon against the poor,” said Mr. Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Spokesman. “On the contrary, this is a progressive and humane system. Those in the lowest income brackets will see reduced tax exposure or full exemptions. We are moving away from the era of multiple taxation toward a framework of equity and accountability.”
The party leadership called on Nigerians to ignore “alarmist narratives” and support the administration’s efforts to build a stronger, more self-sufficient economic future for all.
