The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters has officially invited key stakeholders and the general public to a high-level public hearing focused on two critical legislative amendments aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s legal and criminal justice framework.
Scheduled for Thursday, February 26, 2026, the hearing will provide a platform for deliberation on:
- Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 343)
- Sheriffs and Civil Process (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 432)
The event will be graced by the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, as the Special Guest of Honour.
Senator Adegbonmire Adeniyi Ayodele, SAN, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized the importance of collective input in refining these laws. The proposed amendments are expected to enhance the efficiency of asset recovery and modernize the operations of the Office of the Sheriff across the Federation.

The Committee has requested memoranda and attendance from a broad spectrum of the justice sector, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation, all State Attorneys-General, the EFCC, ICPC, Nigeria Police Force, NDLEA, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and leading Civil Society Organizations such as SERAP and CISLAC.
Submission of Memoranda:
Stakeholders and interested members of the public are required to submit twenty (20) hard copies and one soft copy of their memoranda to the Committee Secretariat (Room 24, 2nd Floor, Senate White House) or via email to senatecommitteeonjudiciary@gmail.com.
