The Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Joseph Tegbe as the Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The confirmations follow a formal request transmitted by President Bola Tinubu just 24 hours prior. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read the President’s letter during Wednesday’s plenary, presided over the screening process that culminated in the duo’s approval.

The new appointments address vacancies within the federal cabinet and aim to bolster the administration’s focus on infrastructure and international diplomacy:

Ministry of Power: Joseph Tegbe assumes the role following the resignation of the former Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye takes over as Minister of State. This move follows the transition of Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu to the position of substantive Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The confirmed ministers bring significant administrative and diplomatic experience to their respective roles:

Joseph Tegbe is expected to lead the administration’s efforts in stabilizing the national grid and expanding energy access.

Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, a seasoned diplomat from Kogi State, most recently served as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. His deep institutional knowledge is viewed as a strategic asset for Nigeria’s global engagements.

The screening was conducted in accordance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ensuring that the nominees possess the necessary qualifications to serve in the Federal Executive Council. Both ministers are expected to be sworn in by the President in the coming days.
