National Assembly Library Hosts Public Presentation of Prof. Ladi Hamalai’s Book

The National Assembly Library Complex recently hosted a historic gathering of the nation’s foremost political, legislative, and academic leaders for the official public presentation of A Collection of Essays: Readings on the Legislature, authored by the renowned policy expert, Professor Ladi Hamalai.

The event was marked by the active attendance, hosting, and opening remarks of the Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, positioning the library as the cornerstone of Nigeria’s legislative scholarship.

The high-profile event drew an elite array of dignitaries, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON (represented by House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere); former Speaker and former Governor of Katsina State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari; former INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega; and the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman.

Other notable leaders in attendance included the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd); former Governors of Adamawa State, Their Excellencies Boni Haruna and Barr. Bala James Ngilari; alongside Senator Mohammed Sanusi Daggash and several other eminent Nigerians.

Knowledge Preservation as a Pillar for Institutional Success

In his formal address, the Executive Secretary, Nwawuba, emphasized that democratic institutions can only achieve sustainable success when knowledge is systematically preserved, organized, and made universally accessible. He reiterated that this core principle directly guides the ongoing infrastructure and digital transformation at the National Assembly Library.

Rt. Hon. Nwawuba reaffirmed the institution’s long-term vision to evolve beyond a traditional repository into a dynamic, multi-faceted center dedicated to:

  • Legislative Knowledge Management: Centralizing vital parliamentary documentation and historical data.
  • Democratic Learning and Memory: Safeguarding Nigeria’s political history to guide future generations of lawmakers.
  • Policy Research: Providing robust, evidence-based data to improve the quality of bills and statutory oversight.

Scholarship’s Direct Impact on Governance

A major highlight of the event was an intellectually rigorous panel discussion centered on “The 2026 Electoral Act and Democracy in Nigeria.” The discourse, which featured deep analytical contributions from former INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega and other thought leaders, perfectly illustrated the practical intersection of scholastic research and real-world legislative reform.

Under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Nwawuba, the National Assembly Library remains deeply committed to providing an open, world-class platform for scholars, legislators, and policymakers to engage in the evidence-based dialogues necessary to strengthen national development and democratic governance in Nigeria.
