National Assembly Library to Host Constitution Review Diplomatic Engagement

The National Assembly Library & Resource Center is proud to announce the Constitution Review Diplomatic Engagement on Friday, June 20, 2025, under the theme: “Constitution, Dialogue, and National Renewal.” This timely initiative underscores our firm belief that national renewal begins with open, inclusive dialogue and a responsive constitutional framework.

We commend the Constitution Review Committee of the House of Representatives, led by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu CFR, for their visionary leadership and inclusive approach to this critical national assignment. Their dedication to reviewing and strengthening the constitutional foundation of our democracy is both commendable and essential for advancing good governance.

As a key support institution of the legislature, the National Assembly Library remains committed to promoting evidence-based research, informed public discourse, and effective policy formulation. In the past year, we have hosted and supported several high-level engagements, including sessions on gender equity and inclusion, The Citizens Roundtable with House Leadership, and the Speakers’ New Media Exchange, among others.

In our quest to enhance service delivery and expand our impact, the Library is implementing transformative upgrades. These include the acquisition of over 40,000 e-books, expanded access to premium academic journals, and the rollout of a comprehensive digitization and archiving system designed to preserve Nigeria’s legislative memory and improve access to information for lawmakers, researchers, and the public.

As part of Friday’s event, members of the Diplomatic Corps will be given a special guided tour of the Legislative Museum, which captures the rich history and evolution of Nigeria’s parliamentary journey. This initiative aims to deepen legislative literacy and preserve our institutional heritage.

We are also proud to note that the Legal Research Department of the Library is actively contributing to the constitution review process by reviewing submissions on key national issues, including Local Government Autonomy, federalism, and others.

We therefore open our doors to welcome the Diplomatic Corps to collaborations and partnership with the National Assembly Library in areas such as research collaboration, capacity building, support for legislative digitization, and promotion of democratic values.

We look forward to a productive and enriching engagement in support of Nigeria’s constitutional and democratic renewal.

Signed:
Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba
Executive Secretary
