The House of Representatives has renewed its call for urgent intervention on the Kirikiri Federal Road, urging the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to complete critical restorative works within the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
The resolution followed a motion presented by Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, who highlighted the severe logistical and economic hardships endured by residents, commercial transport operators, and local businesses due to the road’s unfinished state.
Although the House initially adopted a resolution on October 3, 2023 (HR. 192/10/2023), directing immediate statutory intervention for the arterial route, FERMA’s subsequent repairs focused primarily on the Amuwo section, leaving the Ajeromi-Ifelodun stretch unattended.
Speaking on the urgent need to fulfill the legislative mandate, Hon. Kalejaiye emphasized that leaving major segments undone undermines the intent of the original resolution, which sought a comprehensive and lasting solution to the corridor’s infrastructure decay.
Urge FERMA to conduct an immediate assessment of the Kirikiri Federal Road, prioritizing the severely dilapidated Berger-Suya axis within Ajeromi-Ifelodun. The agency was also tasked with reviewing completed sections to ensure any defective or substandard work is promptly rectified to statutory engineering standards.
Urge FERMA to return to the designated corridors within the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency and expedite the completion of all outstanding restoration work.
Mandate the House Committees on Works and FERMA to monitor implementation and ensure strict compliance with the resolution.
The completion of the Kirikiri Federal Road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, protect economic activity, and bring much-needed relief to commuters and residents across the region.
