The House of Representatives has advanced HB. 328, a Bill for an Act to establish the Federal College of Aviation Technology, Ihiala, Anambra State, moving it to its crucial Second Reading stage. Sponsored by Hon. Paschal Agbodike, the legislative measure seeks to bridge critical skills gaps in Nigeria’s aviation sector and drive regional and national economic development.

The proposed institution is designed to serve as a specialized center of excellence, providing comprehensive legal and operational frameworks for its functions, administration, powers, financing, academic programs, and the award of professional certificates, diplomas, and degrees.

The institution aims to produce highly skilled professionals tailored to the specific technical, operational, and administrative demands of the modern aviation industry. It’s authorized to offer robust academic programs leading to recognized certificates, diplomas, and degrees, equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive skills. The college is expected to stimulate local economic development, encourage technological transfer, and create direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Moreover, the bill outlines a clear administrative structure and sustainable financing mechanisms to ensure long-term institutional viability and high academic standards.

Following the successful debate during the Second Reading, the bill is expected to be referred to the relevant House Committee for a public hearing and detailed legislative scrutiny. This phase will allow key stakeholders, aviation industry experts, and community representatives to make inputs toward shaping a comprehensive legal framework for the college.

The House of Representatives remains dedicated to passing impactful legislation that promotes educational advancement, technical innovation, and strategic infrastructure development across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
