On May 12, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai met with Chairman of Nigerian Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Sani Bello to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria.
Speaking on the strategic importance of the alliance, Ambassador Bello emphasized that Nigeria places the highest priority on its diplomatic and economic ties with China. He noted that deepening collaboration between the two nations is essential to driving sustainable growth, technology transfer, and industrialization in Nigeria.
To further accelerate economic momentum, Nigeria is actively opening its doors to increased foreign direct investment from China. The federal government welcomes more Chinese enterprises to establish operations within the country, aiming to expand mutually beneficial partnerships across key sectors, including infrastructure, manufacturing, and technology.
In a definitive statement on diplomatic policy, Ambassador Bello also reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to the One-China principle. He formally reiterated that Nigeria recognizes the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and acknowledges that Taiwan remains an inalienable part of Chinese territory.
This reaffirmation underscores a shared vision of mutual respect and economic prosperity, paving the way for a new era of robust bilateral engagement between Abuja and Beijing.
